I was on the beach today
Another memory to wash away
Tide coming in
Hesitantly creeping up on frozen traces
Of memories, games
Of so much energy, joy
Usually joy, on a beach like this
If these grains had memories
If they could speak –
More voices than stars in this galaxy
As relevant, or not –
What would they say?
How, for a time, they had silent fun
As we impressed upon them
Now the tide is closer, more confident
Soon the memories will be gone
The grains will be washed and
Tomorrow will like glistening and seemingly innocent once more
Waiting
For more memories
For another perfect lifetime
Of a day
