Trees are greedy,
very greedy.
Unlike a blade of grass,
with its single stem,
reaching pleadingly to the sun,
they have many twisted, crusty, branches
that excrete waxy green leaves,
of wide span,
in order to encapture
the sun’s naïve light.
And unlike the innocent dockle-weeds
that have but a single main root
trees clone their mass of branches over ground
but these underground ones
are even more grotesque:
They are slimy and infested with many…things!
Which is why they are well hidden.
